Yesterday we had auditions for "Damn Yankees" at school. I was told by many that i did a really good job... but i am still nervous at whether or not i received a part. We have singing auditions on Thursday, so if that goes well, i could have a part in the musical. I'm really nervous, anxious, and excitedd all at the same time. We'll just have to wait and see...
We are writing a research paper for language. My topic is "Should the words 'under God' remain in the Pledge of Allegiance?" I started out believing it should be. But after doing so much research... well... i've changed my mind. Of course God is number one in my life, and i love Him with all of my heart and soul, and i love being able to say those words in the Pledge. But even though Christianity is the largest and most practiced religion in the US, there are still those who don't believe in Him. Why make them say something that they don't believe in? It's almost like lying... or trying to fool someone. There are so many different religions entering the US that we aren't really "one nation under God" anymore. Its like me living in some other country and them making me say "one nation under Allah". I wouldn't like that. Not at all. Thats how i'm thinking others feel. It just doesn't seem fair. I'm going to take what one of my youth leaders said: "Do we really think that making people say the words "under God" is going to make them more of a believer or not using it is going to make them less of one?" Its true. We can't make them say that. Yet they do have a choice, but don't we want them to feel welcome, like they are home when they live here, and not like outsiders? There's this little thing called freedom of religion...
